For a golfer, attitude is everything. Whether your attitude is good or bad, your golf game will often follow suit. If your thoughts are full of pleas to the golf gods not to feel embarrassed as you walk up to the first tee, you have already reduced your chances of playing a good round. Similarly your odds of having a pleasurable and relaxing day on the course are all but gone.
Standing at the first tee you might have the benefit of clubs specifically designed to allow you to drive further, the right type of ball for those additional ?in-flight ? yards, and the type of shoes Tiger Woods wore when he was ranked number 1, but unless you maintain the right disposition so that you can control your emotions, you are doing yourself, and your fellow golfers, a huge disservice.
The most surprising thing to most amateur and recreational golfers is that controlling themselves psychologically and emotionally is a vital part in every pro golfers game. These talents are most widely known as mental golf. Mental golf techniques are less challenging to learn than you might think, and will improve golf of any golfer, at any level of play.
Just as noise can distract you from your shot, so can your attitude and your fears. The golfers behind you may be loud and unpleasant but that isn?t something you can control. Your attitude and your feelings are. Simple mental golf techniques such as visualizing your success or mentally rehearsing a shot in your mind till it becomes the most likely end result in reality, have helped professional golfers like Tiger Woods improve their golf and stay at the very top of their game for years. It?s no conincidence that Tiger?s recent fall from the top started when he got distracted with personal affairs and his mental golf game suffered.
Often you just know the moment the club swings towards the ball that it?s going to be a good shot. This is a feeling all golfers have experienced and it significantly improves your attitude playing a round. Having this occur all the time usually isn?t be likely to occur, but having it occur more often than not is possible using mental golf techniques.
With golf attitude is everything and attitude is something you can create by controlling your feelings and permitting yourself to play better. For any golfer who wants to improve their game, all you?ve got to do is to decide to do so by improving your mental golf. You will play better and enjoy yourself more on the course.
