Automotive sector growth for London | London Community News

An automotive manufacturing sector company is seeping back into London, bringing around 120 jobs with it.

Arvin Sango Inc. will be begin the construction a 110,000 sq. ft. exhaust system assemblies plant soon on 12.5 acres of land in Innovation Park.

?We are very excited to be opening our first Canadian plant in London, Ontario,? said Dan Baughman, vice-president of Arvin Sango. He added the company worked closely with the London Economic Development Corp. during the past year to select a location.

The manufacturing plant, which should be completed by summer 2012, will supply Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada with exhaust systems. The first phase will employ around 60 people, whereas an additional 60 jobs will be created during the plant?s second phase, which will see an expansion 110,000 sq. ft. to the facility.

London Mayor Joe Fontana said in a press release that he?s honoured the company is joining London?s manufacturing sector.

?It is an innovative, state of the art company that will boost the attractiveness of our city to potential investors in the automotive sector,? Fontana said.

This announcement came shortly after London?s unemployment rate dropped from 9.1 per cent in July to 8.9 per cent in August. This dethroned London as the major Canadian city with the highest rate ? a position that Barrie replaced with its 9.6 per cent rate.

London added 3,300 jobs and the city?s labour force grew by 2,900. As well, the monthly numbers show that manufacturing is up 3,100 jobs since August 2010, and that total job losses are down to 2,500 year over year.

Ontario?s unemployment rate of 7.5 per cent was unchanged.
