Toy City versus... Hi I wanted to get some feedback from everyone as to what they consider a "decent" M4. I was looking at the various other comparisons, and i think this topic might have been overlooked [apologies if it wasn't and I just missed it]. Anyone have any thoughts on Toy City's various M4's compared to say Hot Toys, and or SS, or VHT? One question I have is which magazines from which vendor are interchangeable with which vendors weapons Are they all the same [I already know that answer, but I would like a comparison if anyone has one out there]. If there is a thread along these lines already can someone send me an update with the link so i can look at it please? Thanks Bravo out |

Re: Toy City versus... Mags are not interchangeable generally. The HT mags are larger as their scale is a bit bigger than other weapons. I think the bigger companies do their own molds from scratch and therefore there will be at least small differences. Toy Soldier and some smaller companies base their weapons on established molds and therefore tend to be more interchangeable. But of course that interchangeability was with DML and BBI generally as TS was exiting the 1/6 stage about the time that SS and TC were moving to the top of the market. As for the best among the larger manufacturers, I really love the Soldier Story stuff. They have more moving parts and better detail. That being said, I don't own much from HT, so I cannot speak to their stuff. I would rate TC above BBI and DML. Without HT in my mix, I would rate Soldier Story first, Crazy Dummy second and Toys City a close third. Just my .01. |

Re: Toy City versus... +1 on the Solider Story M4s - they have better detail, can be disassembled in manner similar to their 1/1 scale counterparts, offering much customizing opportunities, and are better scaled. The only drawback of such detail is their fragility, and the fact that they can be hard to find until the next SS modern release.. HT weapons, while being a bit overscaled and lacking in the details, are very sturdy. Sorry, but no experience with Toys City, though I have heard their quality is not as good as SS. Not sure about mag interchangeability, but almost any manufacturer's accessories (optics, grips, etc.) can be adapted to fit another manufacturer, albeit sometimes requiring a little modification. |

Re: Toy City versus... I think my ordering for 1/6 scale M4's are: - Soldier Story Soldier Story still does the best M4-family rifles on the market. The detailing is just better than anyone else in the business and all the doodads on the rifle work: selector switches, charging handles (the latest ones are even spring-loaded), ejection port dust covers, and fire selector switches. The more recent ones have a much firmer barrel attachment; older ones could skew the barrel really easily (you can see it in this photo if you look close). You can avoid it if you're careful and the newer ones can also have that "bent barrel" syndrome, too, if you try hard enough. I think Playhouse's rifle sculpts are every bit as good as Soldier Story, but they end up a very close second because they aren't quite as functional as the SS M4's. Both are kind of hard to find, though -- SS M4's tend to disappear quickly, and Playhouse just doesn't put figures as fast as the other companies. They are REALLY solidly built, though. Hot Toys sculpts are amazing but the weapons are over-sized. Depending on your bash, you may not notice. They're even harder to get these days than Soldier Story rifles, IMO, so unless you already have one, I wouldn't even bother. Toys City rifles have been getting better and better, with more of the stuff on a SS weapon. The M4 that came with the HALO CCT has a working charging handle, ejection port door, and fire selector switch. The sculpt of the weapon quite good, and the PEQ-15 is almost indistinguishable from SS. They're also really solidly built. It's the details that knock it down a peg: the flip-up front sight is molded to the rifle instead of being a separate part and it bends rather than flipping up; the detailing is slightly "chunkier" than SS, and the charging handle is also very sticky. They also have some weapons that nobody else is making, like the Mark 12 that came with the SEAL Recon Diver, the SCAR-H on the ODA figure, and the upcoming Mark 11 coming on the NSW figure. I'm also very much not slamming TS/BBI/DML M4's, but they're notably less detailed than even TC sculpts. Very Hot weapons can be really awful looking, so I'd avoid them for something as common as an M4. Accessories are pretty interchangeable, although only SS seems to have made all their accessories mount directly on the rails instead of using tiny pegs. I've stuck TC accessories on HT and SS weapons, though sometimes I had to cut off the pegs and krazy glue them on. I'm also surprised that no magazines are easily interchangeable. They all see to be just a LITTLE bit off from the others so they either won't fit in the wells at all or will drop out too easily. I'd just make sure you get 1 mag that fits the rifle, and then stuff pouches with whatever you can get your hands on. |

Re: Toy City versus... Forgot about Playhouse... I would rank them right with TC and CD. |
