Professional Business Marketing ? A new home for Farm Business ...

The Farm Business Farm Management Association has been serving Saline County Farmers for 40 years, but only in January acquired an office outside of Bob Kiesecoms home.

With a celebratory ribbon cutting last week, the office at 22 S. Main St., Harrisburg, gives local representative Becky Ballard a spot to sit and help farmers compile their taxes.

FBFM is a not for profit organization that supports itself through dues paid by the farmers who receive their help with taxes, marketing and record keeping.

FBFM has been around in Illinois for 80 years and they have been in this county for 40 years. They currently have 75 clients at the Harrisburg office which serves Saline, Gallatin, Franklin, Hamilton and White counties.

Ballard visits farmers at the farms, but now, during tax season, works mainly in the office.

?We believe record keeping leads to good tax returns,? she said. ?Some of the farms are corporations, some are partnerships and some are trusts. We help them all.?

Besides helping with taxes, she advises farmers on effective record keeping so the taxes are not overpaid. She also helps with marketing advice and advice regarding government regulations. Her predecessor, Kiesecoms, worked the job for 38 years and worked out of his home.

Ballard studied agribusiness at Murray State, receiving a bachelor?s degree. She is a farmer?s daughter from Fults. She lives in Brookport. She is currently studying for her master?s degree.
