JOB ANNOUNCEMENT
JOB TITLE: Early Childhood Specialist
PROGRAM: Head Start FLSA STATUS: Non ? Exempt

REPORTS TO: EHS Manager PAY RANGE: DOE
JOB PURPOSE:
The United Indians of All Tribes Foundation (UIATF) is a non-profit organization working to provide vital
social, cultural, and educational services to Seattle?s American Indian/Alaska Native community.
Plan and implement a dynamic, developmentally appropriate program for pregnant women, parents and
children ages? birth to three.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
In collaboration with other program staff, provide comprehensive services to approximately ten to
twelve children.
Work with parents to create a family development plan that supports parents in achieving goals.
Utilize a strengths-based approach and affirm parents? capacities for successfully raising their
children.
Identify social service: disability, health, mental health, nutrition, developmental needs and refer
case management issues appropriately.
Maintain accurate and complete records on all assigned families. Respect confidentiality. Meet
required reporting responsibilities.
Attend all required staff meetings and participate in staff training as well as other professional
development opportunities.
Provide 10-12 weekly home visits.
Develop and implement strategies to support parents as the primary educators of their children,
parent involvement in all aspects of the program including curriculum planning and decision
making and parents as partners.
Work closely with Early Childhood Assistant (ECA) to plan, develop and implement socialization
events
Attend and actively participate in a variety of meetings, classes and workshops, to ensure
knowledge of early childhood development and program standards.
Participate in regular Early Head Start (EHS) team meetings to include management team and as
needed with Head Start consultants and or managers.
Adhere to all responsibilities and deadlines in the Head Start Work Plan, the Head Start Policies
and Procedures, Head Start Performance Standards.
Work in a friendly and respectful manner with all staff in order to create and foster a team
environment.
Work closely with ECA to maintain child staffing, staff meeting, and socialization notebooks.
Complete data entry responsibilities using COPA software for all assigned families and children
on a daily basis.

Complete all staffing for all assigned families and children on a quarterly basis.
Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
AA in Early Childhood Education or related field. Two years experience promoting the healthy growth and
development of infants and toddlers. Specifically, experience in planning activities, observing children?s
behavior and supporting and facilitating parents? learning of their infants/toddlers? development and
behavior. Equivalent combination and experience will be considered.
Demonstrated knowledge of principals and practices of adult education. Ability to assist parents in devising
and implementing strategies, which will enable them to maintain or work towards a stable and self-sufficient
lifestyle.
Demonstrated ability to assess families in a holistic fashion that incorporates education, social services,
health, nutrition and self-sufficiency issues.
Ability to work sensitively with low-income families of diverse ethnic, language and cultural backgrounds.
Bilingual ability strongly preferred.
Knowledge of computer software such as Microsoft Word, Excel and COPA (Child Outcome and Planning
Administration) preferred.
Willingness to comply with agency performance standards, which may include: productivity/personal
responsibility, client/customer service orientation, embracing a team player orientation, entrepreneurial and
maintaining a professional demeanor.
Must have own transportation and be able to travel independently to the homes of participating families.
Must pass a criminal history check
Valid Washington State Driver?s License
Food Handler?s Card & 1st Aid and CPR Card within 45 days of hire.
Pass a physical exam stating clear from communicable disease
Non-traditional work hours and workdays on occasion.
Policy Council approval is required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience working with children birth-3
Experience working with families in a social service setting.
Experience working with the Native American population.
Highly effective written and verbal communication skills.
Knowledge of various computer software such as Microsoft Office, COPA (Child Outcome and
Planning Administration) and Galileo programs.
