Although I haven?t been plugged in to the hip-hop world for the past few months, I couldn?t help but avoid hearing about the drama involving Joe Budden and Esther Baxter. For those that missed the memo, the New Jersey rapper allegedly roughed up (he says ?restrained?) his ex girlfriend during an argument that resulted in her having a miscarriage.
Now, as bad and as serious as all of the above sounds, I?ll give Mr. Budden the benefit of doubt as there are various conflicting accounts on both sides in regards to what happened. It?s a curious case of he said/she said.
According to Joe, he merely ?restrained? Esther after she smashed his computer and came at him verbally and physically following an argument about some inappropriate tweets he sent out. Of his own admittance, that restraint involved placing his knees on her arms/shoulders and resting on the area ?just under her breasts? (sounds like a stomach to me). She says he basically sat on her stomach for 30 minutes while she was three months pregnant with his child.
She left.
He went to sleep.
She filed a complaint with the police.
He got arrested in the middle of the night.
She dropped the charges.
He says because he was always innocent.
She says because she wanted to keep their issues private and not on record.
He made a record about his side of things.
Prior to getting up to speed on the above drama, my first inclination that something was going on between these two was via Budden?s song ?Ordinary Love Shit, Pt. 3 (Closure).? What initially caught my ear was Joe?s claims that Esther was cheating with football player Derrick Ward while pregnant with his child.
Upon hearing that, my first thought was how grimy could a woman be to knowingly sleep with someone else while carrying another man?s seeds. But Esther says she didn?t cheat as she and Joe were on break. While a single woman can do what she wants that still leaves room for interpretation regarding whether or not she slept with someone while knocked up.
The drama escalated when the police report detailing Esther?s account of Joe?s alleged abuse was released (he admits to dragging her out of bed by her ankles when she wouldn?t get out of bed to talk) and shots of bruises on her neck and body. But media frenzy came to a head when graphic pictures of her miscarried fetus were ?leaked? (sorry, I never clicked the link).
She did a video interview with Bossip to share her side of the story.
He did several radio interviews, including one with Power 105.1?s Breakfast Club, to tell his.

Here?s the thing, though, Joe has a history of public and tumultuous relationships so this actually isn?t that shocking. Still, there are numerous questionable actions on both sides, but one thing is clear: these two definitely did not belong together.
Have you ever been in a tumultuous relationship? Or, have you known someone who was in one? Do you think that some people just love the drama? Do you think it?s disrespectful for a woman to sleep with someone else while she?s pregnant with another man?s baby? Or, is she free to do what she wants if the relationship is over? Would the same apply to a man who slept with another woman while someone else is pregnant with his child? Do you think a man is within his rights to ?restrain? a woman if she?s trying to assault him? Do you think someone should be charged with murder if they caused a miscarriage in a fight? Do you find it disgusting that some media outlets would post images of a fetus online? Based on what you?ve heard about Joe and Esther who do you feel is at most fault?
